On the occasion of ARCASIA Forum 20, Dhaka, Institute of Architects Bangladesh organized a 10 day long ‘Public Exhibition on Architecture of Bangladesh’ at Manik Miah Avenue, Sher E Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

The main goal of the exhibition was to build awareness and integrate mass people with professionals and policy makers. Engaging the foreign delegates of the Forum 20 with this major event was also a primary agenda. The exhibition entitled ‘Exhibition on Architecture of Bangladesh’, showcasing more than hundred rich and dynamic built projects of our country, was an attempt to shift the paradigm of exhibition from a bound space to the public realm to become part of the general people’s collective experience.

The exhibition was brought outside of formal space of any sort and placed strategically at one of the most popular public plazas within the territory of the National Parliament Building of Dhaka. However, from the sustainability point of view, we found that choosing Containers and reusing them would be the best possible option for accommodating an exhibition that is temporary in nature. The containers were placed at the site in such a manner that they create a wall without interrupting ease of movement of the regular users of that public plaza.

Art works on the container walls, depicting the vibrant city life and iconic monuments of Dhaka, are hoped to further connect people’s emotion in varying degrees. Each of the six containers represents a season, thus reflecting the seasonal festivals in six different color schemes.
